What is the difference between porcelain laminate veneers and crowns?

A veneer is a custom-made porcelain shell that fits precisely over the tooth -- it has no metal understructure. A crown, however, is an artificial tooth cemented to the brepared tooth, Veneers are a new technique and crowns have been around for more than 2,000 years!
With veneers more enamel is preserved on your teeth than with crowns. in some cases veneers can even strengthen teeth. Although veneers are a more conservative technique, many dentists are not yet familliar or comfortable with them. If crowns were recommended and you think crowns may not be the right treatment, seek a second opinion before you have your teeth cut down.
